Good Days Cruise and meeting Cassie - Sunday 8th September 2013

Left early on a bright sunny day heading for Napton Junction where we turned right onto the Birmingham GU Mainline heading for Calcutt Locks.

A couple of interesting boats we passed on the GU.

Nearing Stockton Top Lock June had to rescue a Jackdaw which had somehow ended up in the canal and was desperately trying to get out but could not scale the high concrete sides. He was very wet and exhausted so June found a safe place under the hedge to leave him to recover.

If we had wanted to stop at the Blue Lias for Sunday Lunch we would not have had a problem as there was no one there. Usually the moorings are full with boats with the occupants enjoying their Sunday Roasts.

Just before Lock 12 is Kaye,s Arm where the Warwickshire Fly Boat Company have their yard which is surrounded by lots of traditional narrow boats.

We moored up just beyond Long Itchington so that we could enjoy the Italian Grand Prix. Went aboard Autumn Years for afternoon tea and delicious lemon cup cakes. A little later Leslie and Sue with their Retriever Cassie phoned to say that they were at Napton and where were we. So they popped over for a chat.

As we were chatting to the girls off Nb Jack a fantastic Rainbow appeared over the fields but as usual the camera was still on the boat and by the time I had retrieved it the rainbow had gone.
